Paul and Lisa Cantrell leave Los Angeles for a small town on the East Coast, seeking serene surroundings conducive to raising a family and for Paul to write his novel, but they soon discover the small New England town of Hastings, Massachusetts, has its secrets, and those secrets are threatened to be exposed when a body is found Halloween night in the abandoned icehouse that abuts their property.

The icehouse owned by the town's wealthiest family was the foundation of the original town, and its reputation as well as the family is riddled with a tale of tragedy. Half the town wants to preserve its legacy, and the other half wants the eyesore demolished.

As Paul Cantrell researches the structure, he uncovers adultery, murder, and a stolen fortune. The plot for his book is about to write itself.

When a second body related to a cold case is uncovered, the townsfolk are shaken to the core, and someone realizes the hidden past is creeping up to haunt the present, and they cannot let that happen.
