United Nations defines "Adolescents" as age between 10 - 19 years, and "Adolescence" as the. life period of bridging . The word adolescent finds its origins from the Latin word "adolescere", that means, "to grow into adulthood". Adolescence is a bridge between the immaturities of childhood into the maturity of adulthood. This passage between late childhood and adolescence accompanies a set of biological, cognitive, emotional, physical, psychological and social transitions along with other changes are lack of meaningful responsibility, isolation from adults and deviant activities.
Adolescence
The adolescent period is broadly classified into three phases:
- Early adolescents (12 - 14 years): The child here "is not yet mature" however, he /she is "no
longer a child". This stage is the kingdom of physical changes in the body leading a constant
surrey of frustration.
- Middle adolescents (14 - 17 years): This phase witnesses the development of emotional,
cognitive, and mental maturity of girls before than boys.
