The first fourteen books of this series tell the story of Jesus of Nazareth by combining as many original historical sources as are still available to us. This book is a supplement to the series, a reference guide with a complete set of maps and a complete timeline. Building a timeline and a temporal sequence of events are crucial steps in the study of any part of history because they help create an unbiased source for confirmation. Time has a tendency to be merciless when it comes to exposing bias, errors and misjudgments. This project would be incomplete without it.The time frame for Jesus' life and ministry was based on four historical synchronisms. (An historical synchronism is an event recorded by two or more independent sources.) They were:1.The new Roman tax and census of 4 BC (recorded by Josephus and Luke 2:1-3), described in book 3.2.The death of Herod the Great in 4 BC (recorded by Josephus and Matthew 2:19), described in book 3.3.The number of years that had passed from Herod's building of the temple to 27 AD (recorded by Josephus and John 2:20), described in book 5.4.The exile of the Sanhedrin in 30 AD (recorded in the Abodah Zarah tractate and confirmed by John), described in books 4 and 13.The first two established the year of Jesus' birth; the third established the first year of Jesus' ministry; and the fourth helped confirm the end of his final year. All four of the Passovers that occurred during Jesus' ministry, in 27, 28, 29 and 30 AD, are mentioned throughout this series (all four of them are identified in book 13).All other dates in the timeline were based on clues given in the gospels and various details provided by the Mishnah and other sources. Especially helpful were the Rosh Hoshana, Pesahim and Shekalim tractates for determining dates, confirming various events in the gospels and establishing the sequence of events around the holidays.
