The Gunfighters Apprentice

The Author has a real handle on the old West. I cared about the characters and can almost smell the dust, gun oil, and saloon. I need a sequel.

A good read...

Jerry Drake is a good storyteller--I could see the characters and scenes in my head while reading. I'd like to see a sequel--(I'd specify about what, but I don't want to give this story away!)

The Gunfighter's Apprentice was received as a gift for the holidays from a great friend who enjoys and knows good books. Not having read a "Western" in a long time, I was hoping to have discovered a new author to enjoy. And I am delighted to report that the "Apprentice" caught my attention in the first few pages and had me not wanting to put it down. I found this author to be very engaging and reading this book was a delight!!

Gripping Western!

The Gunfighter's Apprentice is a great read full of gripping and inventive action. The characters are believable and well drawn, plenty of suspense, lots of imaginative detail. This is a book that's hard to put down. When I got to the end of the last chapter, I was left wanting to know more about what the future held for the characters in this story. I hope there will be a sequel, as I want to know more. Will the hero overcome his drinking problem? How will he and his barroom bride fare in their new state? What will they do to make a living? What does the future hold for the apprentice? There are fascinating possibilities here. This is a well-written action-filled story. Get it!

Good read from a newcomer

The Gunfighter's Apprentice is a refreshing change amongst the standard western fare. The story is about a young man namded Matt who kills an outlaw's brother during a hold up attempt. His father delivers him to an over the hill gunfighter so that Matt can learn to defend himself when the older brother comes looking for him. Along the way there are several interesting characters that you really come to care about. Try this on out!
