Book Overview

Misery meets Invasion of the Body Snatchers in this genre-bending, claustrophobic hospital gothic from the bestselling author of The Death of Jane Lawrence.

Margaret's rare autoimmune condition has destroyed her life, leaving her isolated and in pain. It has no cure, but she's making do as best she can--until she's offered a fully paid-for spot in an experimental medical trial at Graceview Memorial.

The conditions are simple, if grueling: she will live at the hospital as a full-time patient, subjecting herself to the near-total destruction of her immune system and its subsequent regeneration. The trial will essentially kill most of, but not all of her. But as the treatment progresses and her body begins to fail, she stumbles upon something sinister living and spreading within the hospital.

Unsure of what's real and what is just medication-induced delusion, Margaret struggles to find a way out as her body and mind succumb further to the darkness lurking throughout Graceview's halls.

Madness dwells within!

Well, after reading this I definitely have many more fears and reason to avoid hospitals! This really did a number on my brain with the unraveling of Margaret as she goes through the experimental treatment until I was not sure what was real, what was an hallucination and it made for a crazy read that had me hooked to see how far down it all went. And boy does it go all the way! Great and creepy atmosphere and setting, taking the idea that hospitals are petri dishes of so many diseases, parasites and whatever is at Graceview Memorial! This book will play mind games on the reader with the slow creep of horror as things twist into something else, or is it all in Margaret's mind? I remain thoroughly creeped out and unsure! It is a slow burn horror descending into paranoia and madness and reads like a fever dream that will keep you thinking about it for awhile. I am glad I got the chance to read this, even if I can never step foot in a hospital now! :)
