Great second book in trilogy

Set eight years after the first book in the trilogy, this is an excellent fantasy novel and part of a terrific trilogy. It answers a lot of questions from the first book and develops the familiar characters even further. Readers do not need prior exposure to the Dragonlance world to enjoy this book. And don't stop here, the final book in the trilogy (Winterheim) is excellent as well!

Good story

This is the continuation of Douglas Niles' Icewall Trilogy. The Arktos have found themselves a new home and new allies in the Highlander people. Kerrick Fallabrine is confronted with his past though he is miles away from his homeland. There are more battles between the Arktos and the Ogres resulting in fast paced action that kept me reading. I didn't want to put this book down! See also: The Messenger, and Winterheim.

An epic, highly recommended fantasy saga

Set in the world of Krynn, a land well-beloved to many role-playing gamers, Douglas Niles' The Golden Orb is the latest Dragonlance novel and the second volume comprising the "Icewall Trilogy". An enclave of isolated humans living int he fortress of Brackenrock survive, aided by the elven Messenger Kerrick Fallbrine, but they are under constant threat from their ogre enemies. A deadly weapon that holds destructive magic within a sphere of solid gold threatens the balance of power in this compelling, epic, highly recommended fantasy saga.

Straightforward and Entertaining Adventure

The Golden Orb is fantasy I like - straightforward entertaining fantasy adventure. Sometimes we need books like these, uncomplicated by political intrigue so rife in fantasy books these days (Eg. The Game of Thrones). Some say this simplicity sacrifices story quality, but I see nothing like this here! The Golden Orb continues after The Messanger. I'm a little dissapointed that we did not see much of Kerrick's character developing and am stuck with yet another 'save the Arktos' adventure. So let's hope that the final book will see Kerrick returning to Silvanesti and showing those snobbish elves what he's made of.

Can't Wait for the 3rd book *Minor Spoilers*

Well, I started reading this book about 3 1/2 hrs ago and I am now finished! Great book. It has been eight years since the messanger. Eight years since kerrick arrived. He has helped Moreen and the barbarian tribe fortify Brackenwood and even taught them things to help make their life easier. But of course the ogres are still a threat. With the help of their royal alchemist they have come up with a destructive weapon which is contained with a golden orb. Will Kerrick ever return home? Evertime he tries something holds him back weather good or evil. Douglas Niles as usual does an exellant job in his latest dragonlance novel. I have to give this one a 5.Zombie I was the first one here to review this book...*Sticks out his tongue*
