I am not a big fan of romantic stories, yet this one was able to capture my attetion all the way to the end. And when I finished the book I wished there was more. I was able to glance into the lives of simple, down to earth people in Transylvania. It was also interesting to learn how the political situation during the early 1970's was affecting the lives of individuals in that reagion. Their lives might be different but their aspirations, feelings, relationships, and struggles make this story a universal one.

This book took me to an unfamiliar time and place, but made me feel like I was right there in Romania during the 1970's. Being of college age myself, the story of the college bound young woman who was forced to work in a factory instead of attending the university really hits home. However, when Maria meets the man of her dreams, her story starts to look brighter and I was completely engaged in reading. Then it takes another turn that left me feeling sad, but interested in reading more. Definitely a good read and a nice love story.
