An eerie gothic thriller

I loved the atmosphere of this novel, the crumbling gothic manor, the eerie woods and nature creeping in, and the very realistic struggles of the young women who are unfortunate enough to reside there. I enjoyed the supernatural aspects of the story and also the very rooted in reality struggles of unwed pregnant mothers who were sent to homes for them to give birth and have their child adopted out long before strides were made in women's rights. Highly enjoyable and haunting.
