Wonderful whimsical story

The fox hunt is a wonderful story! We totally enjoy the whimsy in the story and the pictures. So many little treasures. So far all the kids we know have really enjoyed it too. The story tells how the sometimes forgetful farmer and his cleaver cat outsmart a fox hunter, saving the hens and the frightened fox. Each page includes many funny little additions that a kid can search for: the mice taking a bath in a miniature tube, tiny animal houses hidden in the trees, etc. Much fun!

How could this book go out of print!!

My 3 children, my husband and I have read and reread this book countless times, and even the adult fraction has enjoyed it every time. This is a rare event! An old man living by himself in a farmhouse with his cat, his hens, and a selection of strange tiny creatures, well, if that sounds less than interesting, try to find the book and you'll see! The story of how the old man and his cat scare off the fox (and, incidentally, their neighbor with his gun)is imaginative, funny and very charming, and just the right length for at bed-time story. And the illustrations are unique: beautiful and full of surprising, sometimes absurd, details that make the children laugh, and you too. I strongly recommend this book, as well as all the others about Mercury and Festus (for children aged 3-7). If you can't find them: learn Swedish, you won't regret it.

A tale about hunting fox without the guns

The story in this book is really funny. Nordqvist describes how the old man and his cat takes on fox hunting. Their neighbour wants to shoot the fox, but Festus and Mercury would rather like to scare it far away. They succeed in this - and also scares off their neighbour and his gun. Great drawings!!!! Look for the small details in the pictures!!!
