ABOUT THE NOVEL: THE EYE of the MONKEY
In the aftermath of the war in 1945-46, many orphaned children were placed with relatives or foster families. Unfortunately, Paul, a frail 14-year-old boy already emotionally scarred by the horrors of war, was sent to live with an aunt, his only remaining relative, in the quiet village of Brignais. Despite the care and devoted friendship of his school teacher, Guillaume, he sank deeper and deeper into a dark neurosis and a fatal obsession, fueled by the physical and emotional abuse inflicted by a foolish and devoutly, pickled in religion, relative.
