The Essential Way Class Book: Designing classes with the four-move method, and classes to teach

By Ananda Major

Seventy-three yoga classes, each on two facing pages, and the method that built them. The Essential Way Class Book is a teacher's book of classes. On the left page of each card are the poses in order, with their holds and cues, the meditation the class pairs and the source verse it reads. On the right is the reasoning: why these poses, why this order, and every caution the class carries, from The Keyed Āsana Reference.

Part I teaches the method: naming what the room needs, pulling the poses that serve it, ordering them on the awakening arc and pairing the inner practice, with worksheets for your own planning. The classes include studio classes, short and home practices, workshops, specialty classes, a contemplative arc, a retreat week, and classes adapted for older students, for the back, knees and wrists, and for pregnancy and the months after birth.

Eight series, each with a teacher's log, run from an eight-week beginners' course to The Long Arc: fifty-eight weeks in which a closed group, led by an advanced teacher, takes every practice of 112 Meditations for the Yoga Room, theme by theme, to a closing and a certificate.

Indices by outcome, length, level, pose and meditation; line drawings of all 108 poses; a glossary of the Sanskrit terms. For trained teachers. The companion to The Keyed Āsana Reference. Part of The Essential Way.
