Canadian storytelling at its finest

I read this book two years ago and have since bought five more editions; it's a great story filled with mystery, scandal, madness. . . but also a piece of exciting Canadian history that helps you understand life in BC during the tumultuous times of the opium trade and prohibition. Ms Rogers' prose is tight and compelling. . . her story fascinating . . . and the richness she paints Victoria, Canada with is unmatched. If you'd like to be swept into an historical fiction and glimpse into the lives of BC's founding families-- as well as those of the Chinese immigrants so integral to Victoria's development-- I highly recommend this most intriguing of tales.
