Wonderful Regency romance

I've owned this book for years, and rate it as one of my favorite romance novels. After the death of her beloved mother, Byrony Balmaine has no choice but to live with the uncle she has never met. Eager to protect her (and to redeem the neighbor his late wife loved as a son), he arranges to marry Byrony to Deveril St. John, the Devil Duke. The union of these two reluctant partners is tumultuous at best, and drives both to actions they later regret. Their attempts to manage the passion that flares between them are complicated by an old friend who falls in love with Byrony and the machinations of St. John's black-hearted mother. In the end of course, true love wins out, but the journey to this foregone conclusion is wild and wonderful enough to make this book a keeper.
