At the heart of the project are Tom and Linda, a husband-and-wife scientific team on the brink of a breakthrough. After 999 mice perish in the chamber, on-the-whim 180-degree polarity reversal yields a miracle: the one-thousandth mouse survives. The breakthrough scales rapidly to larger animals, and soon, human subjects are required.
