When I was a kid I thought people didn't die. This was a delusion that carried me for a long time through adulthood. I had a friend who died at the age of 15. After visiting his sister's teaching post in a village, I was very sad, but I thought he would come back. That was the beginning of that delusion taking root in my mind. Then I had an Uncle who was an alcoholic. Ironically, this uncle was the foundation of all my academic studies in liberal arts because each year he would buy books for me by authors like Shakespeare, Gandhi and Churchill, as well as the Bible. This nurtured my intellect. Apart from his constant drinking, no one ever thought there was anything wrong with him. But his two wives resented him and one day both of them left him. This was the beginning of my understanding of delusion.
