Very Helpful Resource

This book was a big help to me in starting to navigate my relationship with my new mother-in-law. It contains personal accounts from many different women of their experiences as daughters-in-law. It categorizes the stories subjectively, by how each woman viewed here relationship with her mother-in-law, and also included the authors' more objective views on how many of the relationships functioned and what might have improved certain challenges some of the women faced. It also included questions for reflection at the end of each chapter, which I found extremely helpful in re-evaluating my relationship with my mother-in-law. Reading all these stories helped me to see how many different ways there are to make a relationship work. It also helped me realize that even a relationship with challenges can still be good, if all the main players (mother-in-law, daughter-in-law, and son/husband) work together and find a balance that is right for them. I would recommend this book to any woman who is in a serious relationship, whether or not she and her partner are married. I'm really glad I found it at the beginning of my marriage. I think what I learned from this book will help me shape a more positive relationship with my mother-in-law over the coming years.

Wise and Professional Advice for the Beleaguered DIL!

This book is an incredible resource of stories, advice, common sense, but mostly compassion and understanding about how it is up to each and every one of us to create and manifest our own reality. Learning to be a kindhearted, sensitive person who is aware of another's needs, no matter how difficult they may seem, will eventually lead to understanding and love, and the world will reflect that back to us, even in the form of our Mothers-in-law. This book should be required reading for all brides to be. A wonderful job and a wonderful read!

Great Book...but not what I'm looking for.

I'm a newlywed and currently have my "monster-in-law" living with us. Before she moved in, we were the best of friends but things drastically changed and I can't even manage to be in the same room as her! I'm desperatly seeking some kind of advice and there are no books out there that relate to my situation. I'm only 24 years old and have no kids, so it seems there aren't any people out there that can relate or there just isn't anyone who has written about it yet. This book is the closest I can get. Although it is a great read and has wonderful advice, about 80% of the information I can't relate to. I highly recommend this book but it's not for me.

I'll admit I was skeptical when I started this book. NOTHING could help me with my mother-in-law problems! Well, this book really did! Other's stories were a comfort and helped illustrate the various pitfalls in the mother-in-law/daughter-in-law relationship. The questionaires at the end of each chapter helped me (and my husband) sort out our feelings and pinpoint exactly what was causing the friction. These conversations are so easy to avoid, but the advice in this book helped me prepare for and be comfortable with talking things out. It also helped me deal with problems that have no easy fix. I would recommend it to anyone who has Mother-in-law trouble and I'd buy it for all newlyweds--before the problems start!
