A real page turner!

The author's influences of the likes of Heinlein, Tolkein, Koontz and even a little Alfred Hitchcock are evident in this riveting tale. This is his best work to date and shows promise for grand tales to come.

A chiller that uses elements of "The Ashes of Gods"

This is excellent fiction that attests to (perhaps) what would happen if the "Old Ones" returned to rule the earth. This book (while it does not come right out and say it) utilizes elements of serious non fiction research into the theory that there were "Fallen Angles" who mated with the Daughters of Man. Thus creating a horrific race of "Giants" who ruled the earth prior to the flood of Noah. This has been written about in many ancient text's and is included in the biblical "Book of Enoch" which book, interestingly enough, the Catholic Church tried to suppress for hundreds of years. In fact they ordered the destruction of the Book of Enoch. It was only saved because a very few far reaching, monasteries in very remote corners of the globe did not destroy their copies. According to the Book of Enoch, these Giants were destroyed or imprisoned by God for their sins against humanity. There are many scholars today who believe that this may in fact be true. Evidence of this has also been found in the "Dead Sea Scrolls" and could explain the Pyramids and other such megalithic structures throughout the world. For this reason, I feel that Chandler McGrews book "The Darkening" could be a what if? What if the Old Ones (or the "Giants") came back to claim this planet? What would happen to humanity? A Chilling read... This book is written well for a fiction. The characterizations are good and the story moves along. A very good read in my opinion. If you like Dean Koonz and the way he makes you feel his character's while you are reading one of his books; you will slip right into this story. This author is someone to watch! Jenny M.

Best One Yet

I very much enjoyed Cold Heart - Night Terror was a good read - but The Darkening was by far my favorite. For fans of doomsday novels, Chandler McGrew's latest offering will definitely satisfy. Kick the kids out of the house, send the spouse to the bar, curl up in your recliner and abandon the worries of the everyday world. I finished The Darkening in about 3 hours, not because the text is giant or simple, but because I could not force myself to put it down. Like Stephen King's The Stand, I had to know immediately what happened, what it all meant and who would survive to the end. Order it, read it, share it!

I no longer have fingernails...

Chandler MeGrew's latest offering, "The Darkening" is a fast-paced, nail-biting tome filled with everything a true horror-book fan could possibly want. Twisting plots and subplots make this a true page-turner and the details are so well researched that it adds an angle of believability that is sure to curdle your blood. McGrew has outdone himself with "The Darkening" and it is a must-read on anyone's list. I was thoroughly entrenched and could not put it down. Stop reading this and order the book already!

Excellent

I really enjoyed reading The Darkening I couldn't wait to turn the page to see what happened next.
