This is not normally my type of movie. Moreover, Brad Pitt is not always my favorite actor. Yet he knows how to pick movies with a character that is made just for him. This movie definitely is.
The basic premise is simple. It is of a person, Benjamin Button, who was born old and becomes younger with time. We get to follow his life through a series of flashbacks in which the reader eventually realizes she is his daughter. The storyline is simple, but what makes the movie is the presentation, from the color to the sound to the great acting. This is one of those movies that does not take you very long to forget that you are watching a movie, and it makes you feel like you're part of it.
Be sure to watch the movie again with the voiceover by David Fincher, and you will see what he is trying to portray and how well he does it. The cinema presentation is loosely based on a story by F. Scott Fitzgerald.
I have only seen the Blu-Ray Criterion version of this film, so I cannot comment on the others.
