Since the beginning of the Industrial Age, mental illness has been a disease thought to be of unknown origin. However, following a thesis research conducted by the author (Dr. April J. MacAlpine), entitled: The Association of Dietary Habits, Pica and Anemia Among Pregnant Women Enrolled in the New Hanover County WIC Program, N.C. in 2001, paramount evidence showed that anemia in pregnancy depicts a direct correlation of impaired cognition in the infant/child.
