The Complete Vegetarian Cookbook

I have this book and have given it to several family/friends. It's British so it was a while before I figured out that rocket was argula and I'm sure there are more "mysterious" words. Since many more people are trying to eat vegetarian, this is a great gift choice. The recipes are quite varied, easy to hard, and the instructions and pictures are clear and appealing. The warm pasta salad has fried capers, something I had never even considered but they are quite good and fun to "fry", "rocket", asparagus, pesto, parmesan cheese, tomatoes and oh, yes, pasta :-)

Some delicious recipes

This book does have some delicious recipes in it. For example, there is a tasty one called 'puy lentils and bean puree on mushrooms with red wine sauce' that is also quite attractively presented in the picture, with a large 4 inch mushroom topped with the mash and lentils and a bit of parsley, with a splash of the red wine sauce. I didn't have puy lentils and have never been able to find them in stores so I used whole mung beans instead of them and it was still delicious. This book is beautifully illustrated with color photos throughout, including photos of preparation steps for many recipes, which could be helpful if you are not a cook. The only reason I gave it 4 and not 5 stars is that it contains recipes for some dishes that every cookbook in the same class has, like Phad Thai. I think it's a pity the many innovative recipes in this book weren't allowed to shine by cutting out all the same-old same-old recipes, but perhaps that is a bit harsh. There certainly are many interesting, elegant recipes in this book, and I do recommend it. For a thinner book that contains only vibrantly original and delectable dishes, you should also consider Celia Brooks Brown's Low-Carb Vegetarian as well as this one.

Awsome collection!

This cookbook is amazing! It has a wide selection of delicious recipes I'd never heard of before. They're pretty simple and quite impressive when served to a party. What looks like it took all day to make really only takes about 30 minutes! Each recipe also features nutritional value.This cookbook is a must have!
