Book Overview

This insightful writing weaves a narrative that elevates breathing from a biological necessity to a spiritual connection with life. Blending ancient wisdom with scientific knowledge and personal experience, the writer explores using breathing to improve our overall health and vitality, and then summons the reader to sense each breath as an overture to life's grandeur and divine nature.

After receiving a college degree in psychology in 1971, John began a career in human services. He started as a psychiatric technician in a county hospital. Next, he worked as a Functional Development Specialist at a mental health rehabilitation facility. Having practiced breath meditation for eight years, he decided to pursue a career in respiratory therapy to help people breathe and study the respiratory system in a hospital setting. He invented a respiratory care product in 1985 and started a medical products company to manufacture and market his invention. For years, he worked both as a respiratory therapist and entrepreneur to build his company. Eventually, his company became successful, and he served as CEO until his retirement in 2022. All the while practicing breath meditation, attending seminars, and listening to different meditation teachers, he decided in retirement to write an easy-to-read book on breath and breath meditation.
