The Clearing is a really good book for about the 5th grade level of childrens reading and it is good for someone who likes mysteries.I read the book and it is really exciting. It is about a girl named Amanda who goes and lives with her cousin Elinore. She realizes that Elinore thinks she is the ruler of the little community she lives in;The Clearing. There is a mysterious man who everyone calls Spook.Everyone thinks that Spook killed a little 4 year old named Bucky so many years ago but then Amanda thinks differently after she talks to and befriends an older girl named Cynthia and Amanda wants to find out who did.Her curiousity brings in another boy,Amanda's other cousin who lives in the Clearing;Nelson.Together Nelson,Amanda, and Cynthia uncover the truth to the mystery.
