Delightful Streatfeild in rather a modern setting

"The Children on the Top Floor" are the Master quadruplets. Like the Fossil sisters of "Ballet Shoes," Margery, William, Lucy, and Thomas are adopted by Malcolm Master, a popular television personality on whose doorstep the four babies are left one Christmas morning. Their existence on the top floor of his house with Mrs. Comfort, their governess, and Nanny; their work advertising for television, and their struggle to stay together when Malcolm Master disappears make an absorbing and enchanting story. The publishers would do well to reprint this book, along with all the "Shoes" series. What a great loss to the American audiences that only three of Streatfeild's books are now available in the United States!

This took me away!

I first read this book when I borrowed it from my fourth grade teacher, and I liked it so much that I never returned it! I read it so often that the cover has been torn off. As you read the book, you are taken captive by the wonderful story of Margorie, Lucy, Thomas, and William, all named after fairytale characters. Each starts taking an interest of their own in the entertainment world, plus the book is filled with happy and sad moments. This book, and all the Shoe books, are great for young girls who have always been enchanted by acting, drama, and musical things, but have never gotten to have the experiences themselves. A must read!(oh yeah, and I'm really not one, I'm 14)

Its a great book!

this book is about a television star who says on christmas eve that christmas is not christmas without children. what a suprise it was to find 4 kids on the front doorstep the next morning. the children on the top floor expresses the way the kids feel growing up as television stars right from the start;when on of them falls down the stairs, and when their father(who is considered mr. master disapears on his yaht. i recomend this for kids ages 9-12.
