Lucy loses an extremely valuable coin and Jigsaw has to help her find it

Synopsis: Lucy Hiller comes to see Jigsaw Jones to ask him solve a case for her. She tells him that she borrowed a coin from her father's coin collection (without asking him) that was very valuable. She wanted to bring it to school to show everybody, but now the coin is missing. The last time she remembers seeing the coin was when she showed it to Bigs Maloney during recess and gave it to him to have for the rest of the day. Now Bigs says he cannot find the coin and Lucy is upset. Even though Jigsaw is a little scared of Bigs, he decides to ask him about the missing coin. He sees Bigs building a snowman and asks him about the coin, but Bigs says he doesn't know what happened to it. With no solution, Jigsaw feels that he can just go to the "Uncle Sam's Coin Shop" and buy a new coin for Lucy. The issue arises when Uncle Sam, the owner of the shop, tells him that the coin he is looking for is very valuable and is worth up to five hundred dollars! Can Jigsaw locate this extremely valuable coin before Lucy's father finds out? Review: Even though there was only one suspect in this book, namely Bigs Maloney, I did enjoy reading this book because the author added a lot of twists to the book, and even as the reader, I kept wondering what could have happened to the coin. I also liked how the author nicely added information for younger readers such as math puzzles, explained festivals from different countries, such as Diwali for Geetha Nair, since her parents are from India, and also introduced terms such as numismatist, which even I had forgotten. The book is wonderfully illustrated by R. W. Alley, who provides cute drawings of Jigsaw and Bigs. Overall, this was another fun mystery book to read from the series and I would recommend it to anyone who likes to read a good children's mystery.

Student Review from Ms. Gehrke's Class

Hello readers! Jigsaw Jones and the Case of the Christmas Snowman is the second book in the series. It's about a guy named Theodore Jones, but since he loves to do jigsaw puzzles and solve mysteries almost everybody calls him Jigsaw Jones. Jigsaw owns a detective agency with the help of his partner Mila. In this book Lucy Hiller, a girl in Jigsaw's class, gets to take her dad's rare coin to school. She lets a guy named Bigs Maloney hold it, but then it disappears. They suspect Bigs, but they don't know for sure. If you like mysteries you would like this book because Jigsaw is a great detective. I like the part when Jigsaw and Mila ruin Bigs's snowman and find the rare coin. Have fun reading!

Modern, cool detective

Jigsaw Jones is a modern detective. He talks like children talk today, he is "cool", and children can identify with him. It would be unfair to say that "The case of the Christmas Snowman" is his best case ever because all of Jigsaw's cases are good. My children love him and collect all his books, this one is no exception.
