The Broken Spear

Following two decades of military dictatorship under General Eric Tweh-the first indigene to govern the Republic of Desertland, a land that is scarred by one and half century of elitist dominance in politics and economics-the people, Desertlanders, popularly welcome the Flirt Leech Maison led rebel war. Tweh is captured and killed. General elections suspend the rebel war. Fearing that if charismatic but dubious Maison is not elected president the war would wage on, Desertlanders elect him. Will looking presidential in white suit nullify the inherent rebel nature in Maison? Will his vow to uphold the constitution and protect the people assure them of a reborn Flirt Leech Maison? Will his reign of terror cause Desertlanders to look up to an epoch when history will repeat itself? Such thousands of questions dictate the life's journey of Gedekan, a teacher, who becomes a refugee in Clayland, a neighboring country. Will the challenges that await him in Clayland make him more determined to secure a place on the Resettlement Program to enable him join his United States based family or return home to face what the aftermath of the civil war has in store for him?
