"The Book of Nothing, " or "Hsin Hsin Ming, " was written in the sixth century by Sosan, the third Zen patriarch. Long cherished by seekers on the path as a study in spiritual perfection, it is presented here in a new translation that is both beautifully illustrated and highly readable.
The Book of Nothing is very short, like a poem exclaiming the beauty and supremeness of the Non-dual State. Its the kind of text that by reading one line a person can instantly drop all heaviness and find inner peace and contentment with just Being. I've read 4 translations of this text, and this publication is my favorite. This tranlastion preserves the essnces of the teachings much more than some others. (Similiar to what Stephen Mitchell does with the Tao Te Ching.) This book/song is written by the 3rd Zen Patriarch Sosan and presents the original Zen before it was monasticized by the 6th Patriarch... and in a much better fashion that the texts "claimed" to be written by Bodhidharma. If you are looking for original Zen, this is the best I've found yet. This book is a keeper.
