Talorc arrives at King Anga's court claiming an enormous sea serpent killed his family and burned his village. He insists it was summoned by a sorcerer of the hated finfolk.

Runa is Princess of the Orkadi. She believes Talorc's story and sides with him, even though he bears the mark of the finfolk and can summon their magic.

As the serpent devastates Orka, King Anga prepares to make war on the finfolk. Talorc and Runa suspect this is what the sorcerer wants, so they set off after him themselves.

As villages burn and blood darkens the seas, Talorc and Runa race to save the Orkadi. Yet to do so they must bring their secrets into the light, and the Orkadi might kill them even as the finfolk close in.
