The Body That Wasn't
Some crimes don't leave bodies.
They leave absences.
Dr Thandi Mokoena has learned how to survive inside Motswedi Correctional Facility-where files close too quickly, questions disappear, and the truth is handled like contraband.
She signs what she's given.
She treats who she's told.
She does not look too closely.
Until a man who cannot be broken begins to speak.
Vusi Dlamini doesn't ask for help.
He doesn't need to.
He understands something far more dangerous:
The system doesn't kill you.
It erases you.
When an inmate dies under circumstances no one wants explained, Vusi offers Thandi a choice disguised as procedure-
Sign the paper...
or become part of what the prison buries.
One decision fractures everything.
A fire burns.
A body is certified.
A name is closed.
But something doesn't align.
Because the dead man is not the one they think.
And the man who should be dead is already gone.
Now Thandi is running-through a country closing in, through a truth she cannot outrun, through the quiet horror of what she has set in motion.
Because some men don't escape prisons.
They escape identities.
And the further she goes, the clearer it becomes:
She didn't save him.
She completed his plan.
The Body That Wasn't is a dark psychological thriller about disappearance, corruption, and the irreversible cost of crossing a line you can no longer see.
