The author presents a creative yet insightful interpretation of what could happen in some of the most volatile and dynamic international situations facing the United States today. He simultaneously develops four conflict scenarios pitting the US against Iraq, North Korea, Russia, and Cuba, conveying each story through the perceptions of the young men and women struggling to do their duty for their country while using every skill and instinct to survive. The reader experiences a fresh, clear perspective on issues that have otherwise been clouded with politics and power struggles.

Hopefully the beginning and not the end for talented young Peter Hershey! The book pulls you in with a humorous and masterfully written opening scene before launching into page-turning action. I couldn't help but fall in love with the Captain, a man torn by contrasting obligations, or Scrub, the precocious but rowdy teenage narrator. This fictional prediction based on the flaws of current political treaties is both fascinating and addictive. I guarantee you will not be able to put this book down-- buy TBOTE!

Well when I heard my hallmate had written a book, I wasn't expecting a great suspense thriller. And I was dead wrong. This is a well-written book that keeps the reader in suspense to the very end. The first half of the book may seem a little long-winded at first, but trust me, by the end of the book, you understand that it was necessary. The second half keeps you at the edge of your seat and up all night not wanting to put it down. Mr. Hershey offers characters of many ages and backgrounds, allowing any reader to find someone to relate to. From the young teens exploring DC to the middle-aged solider forced to fight in Korea, far from his wife and son, the reader has someone or some people that they keep hoping to turn the page and read more about. Overall, The Beginning of the End is a great read and well worth the time and money spent.

This was a great book. Once you got into the plot, it was hard to put down. In my personal opinion i believe that if this book was written by a more known author, it would probibly break the top ten in the best sellers list.

With the rebuilding efforts in Iraq almost complete, the Ottawa Treaty once again comes to the forefront of the national agenda. Without the added strain of rebuilding Iraq, Congress signs and ratifies the treaty with hopes to de-mine the world and save innocent civilian lives-but the plan backfires. North Korea invades South Korea immediately after the landmine field is removed from the Demilitarized Zone. The US military base in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, without the protection of a landmine field, is destroyed by an attacking Cuban army. Simultaneously, a rebellion erupts in Iraq as rebel forces try to retake their country. The President finds himself in the midst of complete chaos, fighting on battlefields on three fronts, when the wars take an unfortunate turn, and the death and destruction is brought home.
