I loved this book. Through personal stories of love (and hate) and family ties one can see the the dilemmas the Baltic states found themselves in just prior and through the Bolshevik revolution. I was not only with the heroine throughout the book, worrying and rooting for her to escape the many deadly perils of the era, I was introduced to a viewpoint of life after World War I and during the Communist revolution that I had not known or considered before. The author says the stories are based on her grandmother's life experiences. We who have not known war need to read this book, not only to be entertained, but to become more informed as well.
