A very useful book!

This book is a must for someone who wants to quickly gain a fundamental understanding of the Bible. The author points out that the Bible is not a book, but rather a collection of books in two parts: the Old Testament and New Testament. He provides the reader with a concise but complete understanding of the meaning of those two descriptive terms. At the end of each chapter on the Old Testament books he shows the reader how to find Jesus within that book. O'Donnell not only helps the student of the Bible understand each book by providing the background, key themes, key verses, and key characters of each book, he also provides understanding for the groupings of the books of the Bible: History, Law, Wisdom, Major Prophets, Minor Prophets, the Gospels, and the Letters. At the end of each book study he provides a quick overview in single sentences of the key themes or flow of the chapters within the book. For those that want to dig deeper--and then still deeper--he suggests resources that go far beyond the scope of this small, but extremely useful book.
