A Five-Star Sequel I Couldn’t Put Down

I am genuinely shocked by how much I have loved this series. The Ashes and the Star-Cursed King was such a strong continuation of the first book, and I finished it in only four days because I constantly wanted to know what would happen next. Once again, the story delivered so many twists and turns that I never saw coming. I genuinely had no idea where everything was headed, but in the best possible way—I was completely fascinated watching it all unfold. The story remained unpredictable without ever feeling confusing, and every new development pulled me further into the world. I especially loved seeing the characters and their relationships gain even more depth. Everything felt complicated, emotional, and believable, which made me even more invested in their journey. The romance complemented the larger story beautifully without overshadowing the action, conflict, and world-building. The entire book felt like a deeply satisfying culmination of everything that had been building throughout the duology. I loved it even more than I expected to, and I’m still amazed that a series I picked up almost on a whim has pulled me in this completely. Five stars—and I cannot wait to jump into the next book.

A Captivating Sequel

High stakes and excellent character development.

A FMC I actually liked! And hot vampires.

As a fantasy/romantasy fan that hates to suffer through dull writing, plot holes, and an unlikable fmc (why are they always tiny and ridiculous?), I felt this series rose above while still delivering on some beloved tropes: enemies to lovers, forbidden romance, morally gray heroes — oh, and hot vampires. Enough spice to sate me (though I prefer a slowburn) and better written than its peers (Fourth Wing, for example. Flop). I finished the first book in two nights and just ordered the second installment. Will updated this review once finished, but so far, highly recommend.

I am now a forever follower of Carissa Broadbent. The adventure, the fantastic characters, and the romance 🥰 are absolute perfection for me. I am calling this my first “big girl” book series. Last year, at 37 years old, I decided that I was going to try and get into reading. After almost a year of reading a cozy murder mystery series it was time for a REAL book. And buddy this was fantastic and will keep me reading. P.S. I highly recommend the audio book as well.

This is the second books in a series, I enjoyed the first. The second is much heavier on war, but overall a solid read!

It arrived in such great condition. I am super happy with my purchase. I can’t wait to start reading. The first book was AMAZING I couldn’t put it down! My only draw back is the pages are soooo thin. You have to be extremely careful with them.
