Book Overview

Grab your prayer journal and start listening to what God wants to say to you today.

What if you could hear from God directly, just as you would from a close friend?

Are you satisfied with a seemingly one-way conversation with God? Do you ever wonder if he really wants to hear from you?

The Art of Listening Prayer is about what it really means to have a personal relationship with God. If God loves his people, maybe it means that he wants to speak one-on-one with us, and if that's true, shouldn't our first priority be to learn how to hear from him?

Explore what it means to experience prayer that really is two-way. Using the Bible as a foundation, you can go way beyond theory and grow in this practice of listening prayer.

God wants to speak to you, and at the end of this thirty-day devotional, you will not only learn how to draw closer to him, you'll be equipped with a practical process to hear from him on a daily basis.

Very helpful

Seth's book is a good reminder that God can speak to us through any method He chooses, including prayer, if only we'll be quiet for a moment and listen. This is a fact that many people believe intuitively -- some of you are nodding right now -- and yet we all can get going in our prayers and then stop after undburdening ourselves, without ever waiting to see if God actually wants to say something back. We quit right when it gets to the good part! Naturally there will be critics who claim Seth is trying to replace the Bible with these exercises. Not at all. He acknowledges that God chooses to speak through the Word most of all. And he states emphatically that what we think God is saying to us must stand up to the light of scripture. He also makes the point, both theoretically and with workbook exercises, that we should not fear an active, dynamic relationship with the God of the universe, a God who desperately wants to be in fellowship with each one of us. Honest, 2-way dialog is important to any relationship, Seth points out; our relationship with God is no different. This book is a good way to get started.

An essential primer for learning to converse with God

Since the fall, God's passion has been to restore the personal relationship with His ultimate creation, man (and woman). Like all good relationships, they require good communication. So many Christians have treated prayer as a monologue, but many have discovered that God desires to speak to us as well, through the scriptures, experience, events, through our hearts and minds. Seth Barnes has discovered this secret in his own life and shares his story(s) in this essential primer on The Art of Listening prayer. For those Christians who struggle with the idea that they can actually converse with the creater of the universe, this book is for you.
