Rarely does a book give as much to its readers as THE ANATOMY OF JUDGMENT. We are not only the beneficiaries of Philip Regal's broad and deep perspectives, but our own critical thinking skills are sharpened as we read. A contemporary Renaissance Man, Regal is able to tease apart, from the perspectives of neurophysiology, cognitive psychology, anthropology, philosophy, and history, the strands that interweave to create and often distort our perceptions of reality. By analyzing the complex ways in which the "illusion organ" (the brain itself) is influenced by the cultural contexts in which an individual operates, Regal empowers us to detect flaws in our own thinking and to resist societal manipulation. Beneath his intellectually challenging arguments and observations is a warm and approachable voice. THE ANATOMY OF JUDGMENT is a pleasure to read and an effective inoculation against nonsense.
an astonishing synthesis

Dr. Regal's breadth of knowledge is quite possibly unique; he draws from anthropology, psychology, physiology, ecology, ethology, world history- and more; and correlates information between fields in an astonishing and mind challenging way. If you wish to understand the human mind- you truly need to read this book. While it is highly readable; be prepared to read it slowly. The rate of information transfer is very very high; and you'll need time to process it.
