My name is Trevor Jones. From Texas.
In 1973, they sent us into space. Five men. A condemned soldier. A NASA scientist. A billionaire who only got in the way. A kid who left to save his mother. And me.
Objective: Eden Verde. A planet for the taking. Whoever planted his flag first kept it all. We planted ours.
Then they came. The Soviets in 1984. The Chinese in 2010. They spoke of cooperation, of agreements between powers. They had guns on their belts and rifles hidden beneath the floors of their rockets.
What were we supposed to do? Let them take what we'd found? No. We did what we knew how to do. War.
Thirty-seven years it's lasted. Thirty-seven years, and not one of us has aged.
In time, we stopped defending a country. We started defending our place.
What I write here is what I did. In the name of a country that doesn't even know we're still alive.
The American dream promised us heroes. We became its nightmare.
