The story follows tween Sophisticated Z, supported by her brother Amazing Chi, as she prepares a bold, innovative project for her school's social science competition that celebrates future Black innovators rather than only past figures. Aimed at African American children, the book exposes them to careers, trades, economic awareness, and social participation, and explores themes such as cultural diversity, identity, leadership, perseverance, environmental sustainability, discrimination, and breaking gender barriers, framed within a hopeful, forward-looking vision of Black excellence.
