The Houston Texans are a great case study on how to build a successful offense in the NFL. Near the bottom of the league in 2022, Houston had many hurdles to overcome to even get to league average. Let alone one of the most exciting offenses in the NFL. Landing CJ Stroud in the draft, and the development plan for him as the season went along was the most critical element of the process. Stroud clearly took to coaching, as he improved throughout the season. Within many of the concepts discussed in this book, his ability to read through a progression and identify coverage keys were on display. The Texans built a strong pass game to bring Stroud along. Bobby Slowik, coming from the Kyle Shanahan tree of offense, showed lots of strong qualities in his first season as a coordinator. The pass game consisted of drop back and play action concepts that gave the quarterback answers, that also tied together. The Texans utilized a varied run game, utilizing many different zone and gap schemes to try and create numbers and leverage for their offensive line.
