I had to take another look at my copy of this book before writing this review. The copy I have I have had since 1986, and was published at the time when Loren Grey had taken charge of Zane Grey Inc. During this time many mass market paperbacks were issued with either stories which were supposedly never before published, or exerpts from novels being touted as stand alone stories. Tenderfoot is an abridgement of the novel, The Dude Ranger, which is a fine novel. It also contains a short novel entitled Lost in the Never Never, which is a portion of Zane Grey's Australian epic adventure, Wilderness Trek. The third work in this volume is The Secret of Quaking Asp Cabin, a first person account of a night Zane Grey spent in this lonely cabin and the mystery it caused him to delve into. Of the three this is perhaps the best of the lot as they are printed here, as it is indeed the complete story. As I said, if you want the entire Tenderfoot you need to get The Dude Ranger which is available in several different prints. Lost in the Never Never can either be found in the "original" printing entitled, The Wilderness Trek, or the unexpurgated version, The Great Trek, which restores the portions left out because of the paper shortages of WWII. The Secret of Quaking Asp Cabin is also known as The Mystery of Quaking Asp Cabin and is available in several different anthology collections. The only real reason for purchasing this book is if you are an avid Zane Grey collector and need it for your set of Belmont Tower editions to be complete. And that's a good enough reason for me.
