A Wonderful Historical Romance Full of Wit and Comedy.

I loved this book. The heroine, Mary, is a genuinely amusing, strong-minded woman who deserves to find true love and acceptance. She meets her match in Alex, a Marquis who is determined to not follow in his lecherous father's footsteps. And yet, he's very tempted to seduce Mary, who he has hired to be his daughter's nurse. The plot takes many fun, unexpected turns and you can tell Pamela Britton really did her research. She also has a great ear for dialogue. If you love historical romances, this is one to try, even if you fear you've read the same plot over and over again. Britton writes very well and knows how to set up and engaging story.

It's a keeper

I loved the characters. Yeah, the plot is outrageous but Britton pulls it off because of the characters. I adore the fact that they stayed consistent and true to themselves yet I was convinced that they would find a way to be happy and married. Sure, from the moment she walks into an interview with a Lord and doesn't try to hide her smart mouth, low-born Mary is over the top -- usually on purpose. But because she's such a intelligent, loving, larger-than-life woman, you know she'll thrive where ever she ends up. Alex, the marquis in question, redeems himself again and again, as he learns to be worthy of her. Golly I love this book! Thank you for writing it, Ms. Britton.

Run and Buy, Promptly!

Anybody who is a fan of romance novels, particularly Regencies really should try it out. The characters are so well-written that they do feel like friends you've known forever, you care about them and become completely wrapped up in their world. Britton's use of different dialects was *stunning* (and for that alone, makes the book worth its weight in gold). Britton is funny as hell, but proves her mettle as an author by exploring the characters flaws and psyche, resulting in some really heart-breaking moments. What is especially well-done is that Britton really pushes the traditional boundaries of the genre.... It's everything you want and love in a romance, but not staid and routine. The characters and plot become so much more developed, and are so deftly handled, I'd give this book 6 stars if I could. It's going up on the bookshelf of "favorites" for me (and I'm picky about what goes on that particular shelf). While reading this, I became particularly enamored of the cousin, the very wicked but sensual Rein is apparently getting his own book. I, for one, cannot wait!!I haven't read Britton's other books, but am ordering them pronto.

Superb! Awesome! Loved It!

Setting - Early 1800's(?) London --- Alexander Drummond, the Marquis of Warrick, is no saint, yet being descended from a long line of rakes, he has vowed to try to change that perception and does his best to not dally with the fairer sex, nor accost maids in his employ. Now he needs a woman! He needs an extraordinary woman to act as nursemaid to his hellion of a daughter. Enter Mary Callahan - and believe you me - let the howling begin! Ms. Britton has crafted one of the most memorable, outlandish, impertinent and lovable heroines I have ever seen! Nothing in Alexander, heir to a dukedom's noble upbringing could have prepared him for the irreverent wise-cracking, but luscious looking applicant for the job. Armed with a fake letter of recommendation and sent by her father to infiltrate the Marquis' home Charlotte was doing all in her power to blow the interview, simply by being herself. It took me a while to read through this interview as I was rolling on the floor from laughing so much! Charlotte, had no intention of taking the job until she found out what it paid. At the unheard of amount of a pound a week, she just couldn't turn that down, figuring she could stay on for at least a couple of weeks. What she didn't figure on was falling for her employer!Ms Britton has written an absolutely outrageously funny book that simply takes my breath away. Fans of Pamela Britton - you simply MUST get this book! It surely is one of THE BEST books I have read this year. Written with tongue-in-cheek, I swear I think I must have laughed out loud on practically every page...this book was an absolute hoot! But lest you think it was pure comedy, you would be wrong, for it surely was a LOVE story and believe me this is one that you simply MUST READ. You'll laugh, you'll cry at the impossibility of the match vs. true love, and it will definitely make you cry and sigh with pleasure at the end! BRAVO Ms. Britton this was a superb book that is definitely going to be on my keeper shelf!!!!
