Extraordinary portrayal of colonial Africa

The review from Reed's Business misses the boat. This is not particularly a mystery, though Dickinson is a talented mystery writer and a murder occurs. This is a beautifully drawn and utterly convincing portrait of life in colonial Africa and in the conflicts and misunderstandings that plague well-meaning people dealing with cultures outside their own. I spent many years in post-colonial Africa and based on my experiences, TERFUGA is a masterpiece and a haunting work of literature about the colonial situation. It is pertinent that Dickinson grew up in colonial Africa and knows whereof he speaks.
