This remarkable book is about wonder. The reader with time on his hands will find many a moment to contemplate the multi-faceted and elusive nature of wonder, indeed astonishment, at how this extraordinary collection of words could find its way into print. Publishing can be a cruel world, and it is wondrous that this book survived such stringent hurdles as critical editors and publishers. I cannot help but wonder at the depth of the author's creative powers, and how it is possible that words could be grouped together in such unusual ways, utterly unafraid of public ridicule. The revolutionary nature of these pieces cannot be avoided. It is clear that the author is asking why poetry should ever need to address profound matters, or to respond in any way to the musical or metaphorical nature of language, and as such we are stunned by a parade of ideas treated in the most mawkish and shallow manner, accompanied by a new one-dimensional approach to language, derived entirely from cliche. "Womb" is rhymed with "tomb", and the attentive reader will indeed see most of his life accelerate before his eyes at this point. The more obsessed among you will spend many a happy hour tracing the source of these poems to various series of "Get Well" cards and KFC advertisements. Unique, and unlikely to be emulated, this must be held in the same esteem as William Shatner's "The Transformed Man".
