Appreciation for this author is growing...

...and with good reason. Donoso has written some of the richest novels of the past half-century. Besides being a masterful craftsman, like Henry James, whose influence permeates his novels, Donoso manages to juggle fantastic fictional worlds and realist narratives, often integrating the two into a single work. These novellas are a great place to start if you are just becoming aware of Donoso. As in many of his stories, Donoso's personal life plays an important role in the formation of the plot. Check this out, then go pick up "A House In The Country" and "Curfew."
