"Tango: Lessons for Life" reads like a self-help book, providing a framework for a positive outlook on life. The author uses metaphors from her world, including her job as a urologist as well as her interest in Argentine tango. The chapter titles reveal much of the theme and content of the book: "The Embrace," "Do Not Anticipate," "Always Keep Your Heart in Front," and "Dance More, Talk Less." This book is pretty light on deep analysis of Argentine tango. Instead, it is closer to a self-help book with some metaphors and anecdotes drawn from her exposure to Argentine tango and her work in urology thrown into the mix. Argentine tango dancers who are not looking for a self-help book will be disappointed, but the writing and organization are good and provide some good motivational stories for those that enjoy that type of genre.

As a tango dancer myself I found the book quite easy to read and almost finished it in one session; it opened new insights into the dance spreading wisdom from dance examples to smart living outside tango combined with interesting biographical anecdotes of Dr. Potts.
