WELL WORTH IT

TOMMY DAVIS FORMER MLB PLAYER DOES A GOOD JOB TELLING US ABOUT HIS STORIES AND EXPERIENCES DURING HIS DAYS AS A DODGER. TOMMY WAS A GREAT HITTER WHO HAD A SENSATIONAL 1962 SEASON AND ANOTHER GOOD SEASON IN 1963 BEFORE AN ANKLE INJURY SIDE TRACKED HIS BLOSSOMING CAREER. I READ THIS BOOK IN A FEW DAYS, COULDN'T PUT IT DOWN FOR A LONG PERIOD OF TIME. REALLY IS EASY TO READ AND QUITE INTERESTING. IF YOU ARE A DODGERS OR BASEBALL FAN FROM THE 1960'S THIS IS A TRULY GOOD READ. IF NOT IT IS STILL A GOOD READ. IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN DRYSDALE, KOUFAX, ALSTON, WILLS AND MANY MORE THIS IS THE BOOK FOR YOU. VERY RECOMMENDED.

Golden Dodger Memories

As a teenager in the early 1960s, I was a diehard Los Angelos Dodger fan. The Dodgers of the 1960s were the post Jackie Robinson era team that created a history and culture of its own. They were a group of young men who were living the dream of playing major league baseball in sunny southern California. Up until this time, Baseball was basically an eastern phenomenon. The Dodgers' move from Brookly NY to Los Angelos in 1957, created a romantic golden age in Baseball anchored in this paticular team. Tommy Davis, the author was a young outfielder who, in this book, captures the essence of this team and its unique personalities. If you were ever a Dodger fan from this era, this book is a must read because it provides the feeling of what "Dodger Blue" was all about. Overall, the book is well done. Toward the end, the sequencing left a lot to be desired. However, all of the stories, lore and excitement come through in concise clarity.

A must read!

This book is a collection of fond memories, hindsight perspectives and intimate behind-the-scenes tales from the Dodgers' dugout during the late 1950s and early 1960s. Paul Gutierrez is a great writer and seasoned reporter! This book is a quick read (even for non-sports fans) and very much detail-oriented (that Gutierrez definitely put time and effort into this book). I read this book over the course of a week and enjoyed it so much I almost felt compelled to write the author (LOL). Recommended.
