In this whip-smart suburban mystery from New York Times bestselling author Susan Isaacs, a retired FBI agent turned Long Island housewife taps into her investigative past when she begins to suspect that her neighbor is harboring criminal secrets.
I was in the mood for an exciting mystery. Unfortunately, this was not to be with this book. Corie is a semi-retired FBI agent (who still takes the occasional contract) trying to get used to her new life as a married woman living the suburban life (but quite well off). She is kind of bored with what is going on and doesn't really feel like she is fitting in, so what does she do? She starts investigating Pete because he has a few odd quirks. Not really what you are supposed to do, especially if you have connections to the FBI and your dad is a retired police officer. That is abusing your authority.
This story meanders so much between Corie's past and present, that at times I was very confused and then just ended up not caring if Pete is a utter villain, or just unfairly targeted by Corie until the end which was quite shocking and completely unexpected. This could have been so much better and so I cannot recommend this as a good mystery book.
