From the backcover: An odd combination - young in years, mature in emotions. But that was Sophie. From childhood, Sophie's whole world had revolved around her stepbrother, Robert, and her feelings had not lessened with the years. But how could she get anyone to regard her feelings seriously when her whole family - including Robert - didn't approve? Besides, there was Emma... MY THOUGHTS: As my title said, pretty hardcore!! Before this, I read "Living with Adam" which is also a stepbrother/stepsister kinda thing. Well, "Take What You Want" is definitely deeper and filled with more passion and intensity and drama! The story is Sophie has been in love with Robert for a long time and even more so when they had their unexpected kiss when she was 16. But of course, that whole thing was a big no-no so she got sent away to boarding school. So she's finished her schooling and is back home for some sort of a vacation or until she decides on what she wants to do with her life. Anyhow Robert is also home for that time period and yeah... That's the basic gist of the story. Anyhow, not sure if you like this almost incest-like storyline though. Regarding age gap, Robert is 12 years older than Sophie - I don't think he's that old. But unfortunately, Sophie came to the family when she was four years old and Robert was 12. Hmmmm...., right? Anyway, their unsibling like encounter occurred when she was 16 and he was 28. They had a forbidden kiss but Robert was so despised himself for it he actually confessed to the parents! So naturally the parents sent Sophie away. This book is pretty intense, well for the fact that they are brother and sister, so there is all this drama of forbidden love, the parents are against it so they sorta do their manipulations, etc. Oh and Sophie has another stepbrother, Simon, who is also in love her. And, looks like Sophie is an absolutely gorgeous heroine cause there is another guy named John, who is engaged to someone else but is attracted/still pursuing Sophie. I know, love square hahaha... Oh yes, did I fail to mention that Robert is engaged to Emma and man, what a devious girl Emma is!! Now considering this book was written in 1976, wow, Anne Mather certainly spiced this book up, haha. And there wasn't even any deeds done (boo!) but it was still pretty intense! Oh and lets not forget semi-suicidal thoughts. INTENSE. Obviously I liked the book.
