I loved this book. The writing is gentle and engaging. The topic is based on terrible true events. The narrator is intelligent, courageous, and kind. The characters are described with affection. Do read this book!

Dolen Perkins-Valdez has done a masterful job of writing this story- the ugly parts make you cry but the humanness and the beauty of those who strive for change makes you smile through the tears.
