I was diagnosed with Stage 3 Triple-Negative Breast Cancer (TNBC) in March of 2008. TNBC means the cells don't have estrogen or progesterone receptors (ER or PR) and don't make any or too much of the protein called HER2 ( The cells test negative on each test). Black women younger than 40 are known to be diagnosed with TNBC mainly. At the time of my diagnosis, very little research had been done for TNBC . I consider all cancers to be intruders that show up in one's life and says, "I'm here." Are you going to fight or lay down? I believe that cancer does not discriminate. It shows up invades your body, and intrudes in your life. I refused to lay down & give up. I quickly put on my pink boxing gloves and said let's do this! Only one of us is going to win. My daughter Eboni was born on 10/8/2007 & was just 5 months old at the time of my diagnosis. My son, Tyrone, was 13. I was devastated when I received the news but the devastation was short-lived because I had 2 people who depended on me so I changed my mindset from worry to warrior mode. I claimed my healing & in that instant, I knew I needed to do the work & GOD would do the rest. I lost my shero Vanessa Jenkins to breast cancer after my diagnosis. Devastation set in again but I had to shake myself loose because I needed to be ok for my children. It was one hell of a fight but I did not LOSE! Come on a journey with me as I share how I shifted my mindset and beat triple-negative breast cancer. Connect with me on my YouTube channel Survivor Speaks and let's grow, learn, and find a cure for cancer.
