For years my husband and I have attended medical conferences down south. Being from the north, I find the differences both charming and shocking. While my husband is in class, I usually tour with the other "Northerners". We come back to dinner at night and laugh about our latest southern discoveries. MDW hit our feeling on the head and I think she must have been sitting next to our table a couple of times. The book was honest and light. It was respectful and funny. As much as we enjoy our time in the south, I think the southerners are happy for us to spend our money and go back north. This book was a gift from another conference attendee and I will be passing it along. Thanks

Originally ordered for a coworker who is reluctantly relocating to Charlotte, I couldn't help but get pulled in by the funny chapter titles. From "No Grits, No Glory" to "My Compliments to the Ref," lots of LOL lines that don't require a move to appreciate. I loved the contrasts of our hoops and football fans, but the Wedding reviews were equally funny. A great little find for anyone on either side of the Mason Dixon Line!
Perfect Summer Reading...

Had a blast reading "Suddenly Southern". Spent time on the beach in Rehobeth, Delaware- and enjoyed every page. Great fun, easy read, and all of a sudden- I was the envy of the beach with my preview copy of Suddenly Southern, and a sure bet for 2004's "Best of Summer". Now I will re-read it at home by the pool. Awesome!!!
Yankee got a good laugh and great dose of the South!

At least one laugh per page

This book was a summer breeze to read with a laugh on every page. The author managed to skewer Southerners and Northerners while getting us to laugh at ourselves. I was reading in bed next to my wife who was reading East of Eden until she threw me out for laughing too loudly. This may not beat Steinbeck, but I was having more fun! It's a great book to just open up to any page and get a couple of laughs and some astute observations. I can't wait to head down south and bring along this field guide to help me navigate the terrain.
