Lieutenant Mike Nicholson is operating out of Malta. Captaining the submarine "Ursa," he is part of the fleet deputed to disrupt the flow of war supplies from Italian ports to Rommel s Afrika Korps.... This description may be from another edition of this product.
There are better Fullerton novels, including his two previous submarine stories, Surface! (Mayflower books) and Patrol to the Golden Horn: The Everard Naval Series: Volume 3, but if their action sequences are more intense (particularly Patrol to The Golden Horn), neither has the love stories of this one about the Royal Navy's submarine base at Malta in 1942. Submariner seems to have been the last of the master British storyteller's fifty novels, for he died soon after it was finished. By then, the World War II veteran was in his eighties. It was a fitting end, considering his war experience was all in submarines. But any of his surface-ship war stories are just as good. My own favorite among them is The Torch Bearers: The Nicholas Everard World War II Saga Book 5.
